Tour of Cheshire 2010 Winners |
Cath Woodman-- |
Congratulations to Cath Woodman on navigating Howard Warren to a great win on his first Tour of Cheshire. Cath also needs a special mention as this result sees her name appear on our memorable winning navigator's trophy for the second time! The winning driver's trophy is no smaller, but fortunately Howard's company CES UK long time supporters of our event had a CES van available to take the trophy back to base for Howard.
The runners up, father and son team Mike and Matthew Vokes also took top honours as Best ANWCC, Best HRCR Tartan and Best KDMC crew. Their result puts them in the top spot in the HRCR Clubmans series following their win on Anglesey in Round 1.
The crews enjoyed over 100 miles of competitive regularities mostly on roads the event has not previously used and included visits to a number of new and regular special tests venues. I am sorry that many of the crews were unable to enjoy the two tests at Delamere, but as they will be aware I had to stop the tests at that location due to an incident involving the Escort of Keith Colman and David Taylor.
The weather whilst kinder than recent weeks was cold and my grateful thanks to the hundreds of marshals who were out helping with the event - I hope you have thawed out now!
Also my thanks to competitors, marshals and organisers for supporting the North West Air Ambulance through the donations made, raffle tickets bought and bids for the 'Ricky Hatton' boxing glove. The winning bid on Saturday night was made on behalf of investment managers and private bank Brown Shipley. The proceeds of these saw the funds raised during the event go over £1,000 and as Ged Jones from the North West Air Ambulance said during the event presentations this took the funds raised from Knutsford and District Motor Club events to over £10,000.
Whilst the results team were working hard finalising the scores for the day and dealing with queries competitors witnessed the presentation of the trophies from a number of the 2009 HRCR Series and were royally entertained by Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams who also presented our awards.
My thanks to my organising team, especially wife Lorna (Assistant Clerk of the Course), Duncan Wild (Chief Test Marshal), Peter Boyce (Chief Road Marshal) and Rally consultants Nigel Raeburn and Don Barrow. Without their efforts, and support of many others (too many to mention individually I am afraid) the event was not possible. Also, the support of other local motor clubs, especially Liverpool MC and Eurcie Royal Oak MC and in no way forgetting the hundreds of people from those clubs, our own and others who braved the cold weather to assist with marshalling and the dozens of other jobs that need to be done during the Tour of Cheshire event.
The ToC 'banner' now goes away for another year, but the planning for 2011 has already started. See you then if not before.

| The 2009 DVD is very educational where it clearly shows the Drivers who did not read the 'Code of Practice' instructions about driving the Regularity sections - See button below. |
Watch the DVD and learn by their mistakes. |
By not obeying the correct lines at junctions they did not record the correct mileage, therefore they could not be 'Spot On' with their timing - Wrong distance equals a wrong time. |
